Having been to The Purple Olive many times previously I was sad to learn the restaurant space was taken over and has now become Fenek and was keen to try and see what the new proprietor had come up with. The menu presentation was nice and the service was as good as the last owners had left it, while the offerings are still of an Italian feel with quite a lot of new options to choose from along the Purple Olive's lineup. We ordered the Bruschetta to start, and while it was tasty as a bruschetta is, we found it swimming in a little too much Balsamic vinegar and olive oil so that the bread was soggy as a result. Moving on from the entree, we had several different dishes and were happy to say that they made up for the entree. I had the duck gnocchi, while my friends had the rabbit fettuccini and spaghetti Bolognese, all of which were rich and delectable to the palate. The shiraz we ordered was nice and well priced even though the year of the wine wasn't what was listed and a year younger.
All in all it was a good start and we were attended to thoroughly and made to feel welcome. And while the bruschetta was a little disappointing, I'm pretty sure we'll be back for round two.
